Learning in residential care: A guide for leaders and teachers

This short guide is for leaders and teachers that work with students in residential care. It draws from our report Learning in Residential Care, ‘They knew I wanted to learn’, sharing what we heard when we looked at the quality of education in Oranga Tamariki residential care, what research tells us about good education provision for these students, and actions leaders and teachers can take to strengthen teaching and learning in residential care.

Evaluation Indicators for Kura Kaupapa Māori reviews

We worked closely with Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa (Te Rūnanga Nui) to develop and monitor a specialist review methodology for Te Aho Matua kura kaupapa Māori. These indicators are used during reviews in Te Aho Matua Kura Kaupapa Māori.

Ako Panuku: An evaluation of the programme’s effectiveness

This evaluation looks at the Ako Panuku programme, which is funded by the Ministry of Education for Māori secondary/kura teachers. ERO conducted an online survey of all teachers involved in the programme and also visited a number of schools and kura. Our findings show that a high proportion of teachers found the programme to be highly effective or effective for them. Ako Panuku has had positive outcomes for participants and their students.
