Science in primary schools: a guide for leaders

To support leaders and teachers to review and strengthen the science learning opportunities they provide, ERO explored the strategies and approaches that a selection of schools had taken to increase students’ engagement in science. Seven Christchurch schools work together to make a difference for their learners

The Education Review Office (ERO) has today launched a report showing how seven Christchurch schools improved outcomes for learners through innovation and working together.

The group of schools, forming a community of practice called Kahukura, identified a need in their community to better support their students’ wellbeing and learning.

Te Kahu Whakahaumaru: Māori continue to show resilience across Māori-medium education

In Aotearoa, Māori-medium education experienced significant disruption when the outbreak of Covid-19 forced kura to close their doors, and whānau and kaiako to adjust to home schooling and distance learning. Among the many challenges were access to technology and resources with Māori communities among the most affected.

Professional Learning and Development in Schools

How well were school leaders determining Professional Learning and Development priorities and evaluating its impact?

ERO spoke with school leaders responsible for planning Professional Learning and Development (PLD) and looked at a variety of documents in 242 state or state-integrated schools (excluding kura) reviewed in Terms 3 and 4, 2018. ERO made an overall judgment about how well school leaders were determining PLD priorities and evaluating the impact of PLD.
