Thriving at school? Education for disabled learners in schools

The Education Review Office (ERO), in partnership with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the Office for Disability Issues (ODI), looked at how well the education system is supporting disabled learners in schools. We found that we need to improve education for disabled learners so they can thrive. This report describes what we found and what is needed to significantly improve education for these priority learners.

Students learn best in safe and effective learning environments

He Iho Ruruku - Te Aho Matua perspectives

In March 2020, the onset of COVID-19 caused major disruptions to key services in Aotearoa including the compulsory education sector. Māori medium education faced multiple complex challenges, and given the abruptness of the situation, tumuaki, kaiako and whānau whakahaere had to quickly prepare whānau and learners for a new mode of online learning.

ERO staff to comply with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order and 2022 booster amendment

In late 2021 ERO’s Chief Executive, Nicholas Pole, has given his assurance that only staff who comply with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order will be permitted to visit schools and early learning services from Monday 15 November 2021. By 1 January 2022, only fully vaccinated staff will be able to work at or visit schools and early learning services.
